American School’s Independent Study Program is designed for students who attend public or private high schools. Individual subjects may be taken through the Independent Study Program for credit recovery purposes, to avoid scheduling conflicts, to challenge the accelerated student, to assist the homebound student, or to take the place of summer school.

- As of May 1, 2020, tuition is $900 per year for middle school and high school. Each year consists of 5 units of credit. Individual subjects for enrichment typically cost between $150 and $400 each. Tuition for full years or individual subjects always includes all study materials and access to the Online Student Center, where students and parents can review grades and academic records and receive assistance.

- American School prides itself on not charging students for many services. Services that might involve additional fees include transcript evaluations, sending duplicate transcripts or diplomas, or replacing lost study materials.

American School’s innovative paper-based and online curriculum offers something for everyone in grades 6-12. Students can choose from more than 100 self-paced courses in traditional subjects such as English, math, social studies and science and take electives in such subject areas as business, career and technical education, fine arts, and world languages,
- Structure
Students may enroll anytime and study anywhere, working when and where it is convenient for them. Unit exams, discussion boards or projects are submitted to American School for grading, and students may begin work on the next unit or work in another subject during the short turnaround time for exams to be graded and returned.
